I am a complete novice when it comes to using my phone for photography. I am almost one of those “hold-outs” that only use their cellphone for making phone calls. However, I am getting a bit better, at least now I use my phone for directions, and sometimes take pictures. My problem is, I am jealous of those people who take amazing pictures with their phone! How do they do those shots? What do they know that I don’t?
I may have found at least one possibility in a video course I found online, called, of course, “Phone Photography Tricks.” Created by a professional photographer, Carl Hartman, to teach regular people like you and me how to use our phones to take incredible pictures. Mr. Hartman has been studying and mastering FX and trick photography for over 25 years. He was a photographer when DLSR first came out. Since then, technology has advanced to the point cellphones now have ultra-sharp image quality that can do everything as well (or maybe better) than a standard DSLR. Because of this, his mission has become helping those who want to take pictures, but don’t have the money for high-end equipment, take them using only their phones.
The Conveniences of Phone Photography
There are multiple reasons why in today’s world, having the ability to take pictures with your phone rather than a camera is a viable option. This ability to take photos is just another added convenience underutilized on your Smartphone or iPhone.
- First: Newer smartphone models have ultra-sharp image quality. As a result, even the old iPhone 3GS with only a 3-meg camera can give DSLRs a run for their money. As well as the iPhone 4, 4S, and 5, which are even better. They can do anything (and sometimes more) your standard DSLR can do.
- Second: Smartphones are “pocketable” and portable. Just imagine having to carry around a case of camera equipment. Then the attention you get setting up the equipment to take photos, the stares, gawks, intrusions, etc. With a phone, you have the freedom to take pictures anywhere, anytime. Because they’re less intrusive, you can pull it out of your pocket, click the pic, and go!
- Third: You can easily add special effects, even after taking the pics with the free photo-editing apps available. Quickly upload these apps to your favorite photo-sharing sites. You can easily create amazing photos without transferring files to your computer, or even mess with Photoshop!
